Creative Mentorship
For writers looking to go deeper into their practice.
What This Is
Creative Mentorship is one-to-one work with writers who are ready to take their writing seriously; not as an occasional pursuit but as a practice. A commitment returned to, developed, and lived in over time.
Where Development & Direction looks to shape the project, mentorship shapes the writer. I read your work in advance of each session and come prepared to engage with it fully — the craft, the voice, the particular challenges of staying with yourself on the page. We work on what you bring, and we work on you as a writer: your habits, your blocks, your relationship to the work itself.
The goal is your growing confidence, independence, and creative authority, to write more fully like yourself.
Who This Is For
Writers who are finding their feet — those with a genuine instinct for language and a desire to develop it, who want honest, careful guidance rather than vague encouragement.
Writers returning to their practice after a long absence, who need support in building the habit and confidence to stay with the work.
Writers who have been writing privately for some time and are ready to take the next step — toward finishing something, sharing something, or simply deepening what they already do.
You do not need to be published, credentialed, or certain of where your writing is going. You just need to be genuinely committed to the practice of it.
What It Involves
Every mentorship engagement is shaped around the specific needs of the writer. The structure below is a guide; the exact inclusions are decided together in our initial conversation.
A mentorship session typically includes:
Reading of your work in advance — usually up to 2,000 words of prose, or a equivalent body of poetry, with written notes prepared before we meet.
A session of approximately 90 minutes — space to discuss the work and your practice, ask questions, think aloud, and receive honest, considered feedback on the craft.
Written feedback returned to you after the session, so that what we discussed has somewhere to live on the page.
A suggested focus or practice for the weeks between sessions — something small and specific to return to.
What It Does Not Include
Rewriting your work for you. My role is to help you see your writing more clearly and develop the tools to improve it yourself.
Guaranteed publication or outcomes. I can help you become a stronger, more confident writer. What you do with that is yours.
Unlimited availability between sessions. I am present and fully engaged during our time together; outside of that, communication is kept to what is necessary and agreed.
The Commitment & Structure
Mentorship works best as an ongoing commitment rather than a one-off conversation — the most meaningful development happens over time, through regular return to the work. That said, single sessions are available for writers who want to begin with one conversation before committing to more.
From £95 per session. Block of four sessions: £340. All engagements begin with a short introductory conversation to ensure we are the right fit for each other, unless this is unnecessary. Please get in touch to arrange.
A Note On How I Work
I believe that good writing is always a practice — returned to, refined, lived in. I bring that same belief to the writers I work with. I will read your work with genuine care and respond to it honestly. I will not tell you it is better than it is, and I will not tell you it is worse. I am truly interested in what you are actually trying to say, and in helping you find the most precise and living way to say it.
If this is what you are looking for, I would love to hear from you.
